Ideally there is a type of continuum which flows from life through the artist's sensibility and his materials ... the concreteness of the object and its own life (reality), through the spectator, with his expectations, interpretations, back into life. It is not simple, maybe not possible, to separate any parts of this continuum. I always hope the work, when finally I stop actively effecting it, is in an open-ended type situation, which permits of my own re-entry to the process as well obviously of any other interested spectator. Again, I hope that the work, in its approachability, does not shut out involvement, nor that it should be so aggressive as to attack the spectator. I would prefer to think of it as seductive rather than rapist. Like a pool in which one can swim or float - or again as a talisman which can reveal, a charm which may transport.
